Manchester Liberal Democrats environment spokesperson, Dr Jackie Pearcey, has welcomed moves today led by Liberal Democrats MP Wera Hobhouse calling for an end to fracking because of its adverse impact on the environment and its incompatibility with tackling the climate crisis.

After gaining her PhD Jackie Pearcey took part in a project to work out what would happen with long-term nuclear waste repositories under various points in the North of England and told us that "The problem was that the ground water would always get in and would always get up to the surface. Fracking will contaminate the groundwater and this will get to the surface."

Commenting on the National Audit Office report into the sustainability of police forces in England and Wales Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesperson for Manchester Gorton, Jackie Pearcey, told Focus "The fact the NAO is now reporting constables are finding it difficult to deliver an effective service is yet another shocking indictment of the government's failure to support our police."

Policing in Greater Manchester in in crisis; the office of Mayor is politically impotent and now taking the blame for the Conservative government's cuts.

Liberal Democrat spokesperson on Crime and Disorder, Jackie Pearcey, told Focus "City Mayors were introduced to allay calls for regional devolution, but what they are turning out to be is the Aunt Sallies of modern Britain taking all the criticism when things go wrong but with no power to raise funds or change laws."

When you ask your Labour councillors in Manchester if potholes can be fixed they will tell you that they don't have the money because of government cuts, and yet £18 million of money set aside to repair our roads went unspent last year. That's not cuts, it's incompetence.

Manchester Council today announced the next phase of Manchester's highways investment but completely failed to admit that their mismanagement of our city means nearly £18m has been wiped from this year's spending.
